WE MUST MAKE ADEQUATE PROVISIONS FOR DISABILITY - GROUP.
An astute Support Group of the All Progressives Congress, with vested interest in good governance and global best practices in public reckoning, the Neighbourhood Coalition has urged Governments at all levels to give priority attention to issues of Disability in the country.
The Group's Call,its National Coordinator,Hon. Emmanuel Enang said was part of the resolutions reached at the end of a Breakfast Meeting in Calabar.
Enang said "Government must review its policy regarding Disability to make standard and comprehensive provisions for their comfort and welfare needs.
He emphasized "When you draw the Architectural Design for that storey- building-public facility,do you make provisions for the vulnerable and impaired persons to get up the floors at ease?.
The answer is No,and further calls for a global concern for Persons Living With Disabilities, PWDs."
According to the National Coordinator,"these utter disregard or neglect of such persons has been the need for the call on the present administration to review the process of their comfort and welfare with a view to giving them the maximum comfort that accrues to some of us.
"Let us all first accept the fault of our utter neglect of these class of persons in society.Remember that most of them are very productive and add so much virtue and value to the Nation's growth.
"When we remember this,we would be humble enough to look at their potential comfort and provide adequately for them.".
He said the proposed Ministry of Disability Affairs and the Disability Commission should be given full responsibility and enabling instruments to prioritise issues related to Disability in the country.
