Russia denies plans to begin war on Ukraine on 9th May | Ukraine war

Russia has dismissed as "false" suggestions that it could declare all-out war on Ukraine in the coming days.

Until recently, Moscow has denied being at war, calling to the invasion as a "special military operation."

However, Western officials have predicted that President Vladimir Putin may use the 9 May Victory Parade to launch a military escalation.

Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin spokesperson, claimed the rumors were "completely false."

Last week, UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace suggested that the Moscow parade marking the defeat of the Nazis and the end of World War II could be used to rally support for a large mobilization of troops and a renewed push into Ukraine.

"I wouldn't be surprised, and I don't have any proof."

Russian officials only refer to the invasion as a "special military operation" to "demilitarise" or "de-Nazify" the Ukraine, referring to an unfounded assertion about Nazis in the Ukrainian government that Moscow used to justify the attack.

In addition to the annual march in Moscow, there have long been speculations that the Kremlin is planning a celebration in Mariupol, a city in southern Ukraine that is now almost entirely under Russian control. Ukrainian military are still stationed in one sector of the city, a massive industrial steelworks known as Azovstal.

According to recent reports, after the successful evacuation of some residents, attacks on the steelworks have resumed, and contact with the last remaining soldiers inside has been lost.
